John’s practice centers on real estate litigation with a focus on landlord-tenant disputes, land use matters, and other complex commercial matters. Representation of the City of Boston in the successful defense of a challenge to the renovation of White Stadium and the City’s public-private partnership with Boston Legacy FC of the National Women’s Soccer League. The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court’s decision affirming the City’s victory at trial provides important clarity around the application of Article 97 to publicly owned property, with potential implications for how Massachusetts municipalities approach future redevelopment of public land for housing, schools, and other public projects. The outcome of the case enables the development of a first-of-its-kind shared stadium for Boston Public Schools athletes and a professional women’s soccer team.
Defeated opponents' attempt to block a University's proposed Campus expansion project. Prevailed at trial court and before the Massachusetts Appeals Court in Nahant Preservation Trust, Inc., et al v. Northeastern University, 104 Mass.App.Ct. 698 (2024).
The City of Boston, when a public interest organization and group of area residents sued to stop the construction of a new sports stadium. Our firm defeated plaintiffs' motion for a preliminary injunction and prevailed at trial on the merits, allowing the project to proceed.
